Levels of Care

Find the right level of care for your loved one.

From a few companion hours a week to around-the-clock live-in support, our levels-of-care ladder shows exactly what each step includes — so you can choose with clarity, not guesswork. Every plan starts with a free in-home assessment.

Four Levels · One Ladder

Choosing With Confidence

How families find the right fit.

Start with a free assessment

Every care plan begins with a free, no-obligation in-home visit. A care coordinator sits down with you and your loved one, looks at the home, and listens — to routines, worries, and what independence means to your family. We recommend a level only after we understand the person, never from a phone script.

How to know which level fits

A simple question helps: what can your loved one still do safely on their own? If it's most things but the house feels too quiet, that's Companion Care. If bathing, dressing, or mobility have become risky, that's Personal Care. Memory changes point to Level 3, and safety concerns that don't rest point to 24-hour care.

Care that moves with you

Needs rarely stay still. Many families start at Companion Care and step up after a fall or a diagnosis; others step down as someone recovers from surgery. You can change levels with a week's notice, and wherever possible we keep the same caregiver so trust carries from one step to the next.

What it costs — and what's covered

Hourly rates are shown above, with a four-hour visit minimum on hourly care. Overnight, holiday, and 24-hour rates differ — we quote them plainly, in writing, before you commit. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, and most long-term-care insurance, and we'll help you check your coverage on our free assessment.

No contracts, no pressure

Sunrise care is a schedule, not a subscription trap. There's no long-term contract and no cancellation fee — most families begin with a short trial period and adjust from there. Clients stay because the care is good, not because a contract says they have to.

One vetted caregiver, not a rotation

At every level, your loved one is matched with a background-checked, W-2 Sunrise caregiver who learns their preferences and their story. If that caregiver is ever out, we tell you before the visit and send a briefed teammate — never a stranger who has to start from zero.

Levels of Care Questions

What families ask before choosing a level.

How do I know which level of care my parent needs?

The honest answer is that most families aren't sure, and that's exactly what the free in-home assessment is for. As a rule of thumb: if your parent is safe and independent but lonely, that's Companion Care; if bathing, dressing, or walking have become risky, that's Personal Care; memory changes point to Memory Care; and safety concerns around the clock point to 24-hour care. We'll confirm the right fit in person.

Can we move between levels as needs change?

Yes — the ladder is meant to be moved on. Many clients start with a few companion-care hours and step up after a fall, a hospital stay, or a diagnosis, then sometimes step back down as they recover. You can change levels with about a week's notice, and wherever possible we keep the same caregiver so your loved one isn't starting over with someone new.

What does each level actually cost?

Companion Care starts at $28/hour, Personal Care at $34/hour, and Memory Care at $39/hour, with a four-hour minimum per visit. Around-the-clock and live-in care is quoted daily, starting around $360/day depending on the situation. Overnight and holiday rates differ, and we always put pricing in writing before you commit — no surprises on the first invoice.

Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance?

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, and most long-term-care insurance plans, and we'll help you understand what your coverage includes during the free assessment. Coverage varies by plan and by the level of care, so we walk families through the specifics rather than making promises we can't keep.

Is there a minimum commitment or contract?

No long-term contract and no cancellation fee. Hourly care carries a four-hour visit minimum, but the schedule itself is flexible — most families begin with a short trial and adjust from there. You can pause for a season or stop with a week's notice.

What if we need care urgently after a hospital stay?

Care can usually begin within 48 to 72 hours of your first call, and we work to accelerate that timeline for urgent hospital discharges. Call us and a coordinator will start the assessment right away — post-surgery and post-hospitalization support is one of the most common reasons families reach Sunrise.
